Q: What are FrontPage Server Extensions?
A: FrontPage Extensions are CGI programs which provide the server side
implementation of FrontPage. The extensions allow your local computer to properly communicate with your domain through the http protocol using
Remote Procedure Call (RPC).
When the server sees the "POST" request addressed to the FrontPage
server extensions it simply directs the request to the appropriate CGI
program. The extensions implement authoring (uploading/downloading documents,
ToDo lists), administration (setting end-user, author, and administrator
privileges), and dynamic content (browse-time, WebBot components).
Without the FrontPage server extensions you will not be able to take advantage
of the WebBots that are available through FrontPage. You also can't author and
administer your site using the tools provided as part of the FrontPage
Editor/Explorer package.
If you don't use the FrontPage Ext.
you have to publish your files via FTP to your web server.

Q: What is
FrontPage?
A: In order to use the
FrontPage Extensions you need the FrontPage program. With FrontPage you create
and edit Web pages in a comfortable WYSIWG (what you see is what you get) editor
view. And then publish it to your web server.
More information about this program is available at Microsoft.

Q: How do I get FrontPage Extensions?
A: Check the box on
the order form indicating that you want the FrontPage extensions.

Q: Will all the FrontPage Extensions work on my account?
A: Yes, all the standard extensions FrontPage offers will work on your domain. You will not be able to use the Microsoft Access database integration at this time. Although they are now offered as integrable languages within the FrontPage program, they are not part of the server extensions and require separate software to work properly.

Q: Is the use of the FrontPage Extensions free?
A: Yes, it is :-)

Q: What is a WebBot?
A: WebBots are the
mechanism for invoking many of the interactive features built into FrontPage.
These features are added to your site through the FrontPage Editor | Insert
WebBot component
Some, such as ''Include'' and ''Substitution''
allow elements of your site to be entered once and included in any or all of
the pages by inserting the Bot component referencing that element (e.g., a
logo or navigation bar). Changes made to the 'master' element are made
automatically to any page containing the referencing Bot.
Other Bots, such as Search, Table of Contents
and Timestamp, control dynamic browse-time features. These Bots work behind
the scenes to keep your site up-to-date for visitors.

Q: Do you still support FrontPage98 or FrontPage2000?
A: Yes, the FrontPage
2002 extensions are backward compatible.

Q: Can I create sub webs on my virtual server?
A: Yes, it's recommended
to create a sub web, when you have a huge amount of small files to any sub-directory.
The root web recognizes the subdirectory as a subweb and will not traverse the directory!
The result is faster access to your root web.
Another reason to create a sub web is, if you have other people working on
your web too. Create a sub web for them, and their access will be restricted
to the assigned sub web by using their own login/password combination. You
don't have to grant root access, which would be a security risk, if they are
not completely trustworthy. You never know..... ;-)

Q: Do you charge a fee for additional sub webs?
A: No, we don't :-)
Feel free to create as many sub webs as you want.

Q: Do you have time out settings activated on your servers?
A: Yes, most of our
servers have a time out setting actived. If you have extremly large webs or
problems with FrontPage time outs, we can increase the time out limit
for your domain. Please contact support to get your time limit adjusted.
